Description

Ana Mazzei: Drama O'Rama
SESC Pompeia, São Paulo, Brazil
16 October 2019 - 2 February 2020

The notion of spectatorship is at the centre of Ana Mazzei’s work. For this reason, concepts such as display, proportion and scale are integral to how her work is constructed, often converging into installations encompassing groups of two and three-dimensional objects. Rather than being conceived as autonomous works, the sculptural or pictorial elements that make up her fragmented compositions are carefully staged in order to establish specific relationships between bodies and space.

The configuration of her pieces and how viewers encounter them is always the result of the empirical experience of her own body in space. In Mazzei’s case, site-responsiveness inevitably implies a degree of improvisation: although always using drawing as a starting point in her exhibition-making process, the installation stage remains open to be choreographed according to different architectural conditions.

Produced in collaboration with the artist, this video walks us through the different elements of Ana Mazzei's solo exhibition Drama O' Rama that took place at  SESC Pompeia, São Paulo, Brazil.
