MILAAP is pleased to open its annual curated exhibition as part of the CHART Art Fair 2025, featuring Iranian artist Nazgol Ansarinia (b. 1979, Tehran). Presented in collaboration with Green Art Gallery in Dubai, Dissolving Substances is Ansarinia’s first solo exhibition in Denmark. The exhibition is curated by Astrid Wang and Adrian Preisler.
Ansarinia’s multidisciplinary practice is intensively preoccupied with the historically fluctuating expressions of Iranian architecture and public infrastructure, and their role as material expressions of power dynamics. Often drawing on the urban history of Tehran, Ansarinia turns architectural features into fissures in the fabric of power, analyzing society-wide problematics on a wide range of scales, from the intimate to the global.
Her works examine the practical configurations of the built environment, presenting aesthetically potent allegories of their overarching issues and unveiling the in-built power structures in the work of architects, urbanists and engineers by turning their overarching problematics and formal expressions into artworks. Dissolving Substances, her exhibition at MILAAP, centers on one of the main preoccupations of Iranian architectural history (and, one could argue, civilization overall): the access to water.
